- In exercise studies, arginine supplements typically showed no effect on nitric oxide levels or blood flow, and research does not strongly support citrulline either. The NIH review covers exercise performance; it does not assess sexual function.
- Arginine up to 9 g a day for several days or weeks has been reported as well tolerated; safety beyond 3 months is unknown.
